The others are only marginally weaker, even the sometimes maligned final album from 1992, Burning Up the Night, has loads and loads of great songs.

Still, "Waiting for a Train" was a Top Ten hit in the UK and "Midnight Man" equally successful in Germany and Scandinavia ("Ayla" and "Early Morning Wake Up Call" are also hits in Europe), so it's not like they were totally overlooked.Specialist Spectrushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07573706778596800678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2305571058310227787.post-48229524466539249552020-07-17T11:21:18.545-04:002020-07-17T11:21:18.545-04:00Flash and the Pan had absolutely no marketing behi...Flash and the Pan had absolutely no marketing behind them. I was -- still am -- a huge fan and I never knew "Headlines" (released in 1982) existed until five or so years ago.

Much as I love the great songs "Atlantis Calling," "Down Among the Dead Men," "Downtown Too Long," "Midnight Man," "Media Man," and "Saviour Man," this is probably my favorite Flash and the Pan song, even though (or "because of," I'm not sure which) it sounds absolutely nothing like anything else. It's sentimental, it's earnest, it's wistful, it's even romantic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ335XJU_9gretrofuturistichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00943464262808394856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2305571058310227787.post-32666947245135557262020-07-02T20:44:52.007-04:002020-07-02T20:44:52.007-04:00I'm listening to a collection of their songs r...I'm listening to a collection of their songs right this moment. I've loved their sound and only recently discovered their song "Ayla". Lovely rhythms/beat and dancing now with my 3 year old granddaughter.
I loved the way they were by this time primarily music producers and worked with some really good musicians who were happy to give a hand when they wanted to produce work of their own.
So they could do stuff when they wanted to without the burden of touring or being "pop" starsSteve Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02152101426431208778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2305571058310227787.post-76034111506841784642012-05-01T12:40:03.973-04:002012-05-01T12:40:03.973-04:00Vanda and Young were primarily producers and songw...Vanda and Young were primarily producers and songwriters. Young was busy producing AC/DC for his younger brothers Angus and Malcolm, as well as other groups. Flash and the Pan was only a studio group; Vanda and Young were too busy producing to tour.Chuck Rothmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10903706448043066253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2305571058310227787.post-28680421756928213322012-05-01T11:13:10.936-04:002012-05-01T11:13:10.936-04:00A great side project. When I was in high school in San Diego during the 80's, our local college-rock station 91X would play "Hey, St. Peter" all the time.

Love the video too. St. Peter must have been a method actor!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
